What are the materials available for the machining rod?

There are various material choices for machining rods, including the following common ones:
High speed steel (HSS):
Characteristics: It has excellent wear resistance and strength, and can withstand high cutting temperatures and pressures.
Application: Suitable for processing hard materials such as steel, it is one of the traditional materials for manufacturing machined rods.
Alloy steel:
Characteristics: Alloy elements enhance the strength and toughness of steel, while improving corrosion resistance.
Application: More suitable for processing corrosion-resistant materials such as stainless steel, as well as occasions that require higher strength and toughness.
Hard alloy (carbide):
Characteristics: Made from hard compounds of refractory metals and bonding metals through powder metallurgy processes, it has ultra-high hardness and heat resistance.
Application: Suitable for high-speed cutting and processing of high hardness materials such as cast iron, non-ferrous metals, plastics, etc.
Ceramics:
Characteristics: It has high hardness and heat resistance, and can maintain stable cutting performance at high temperatures.
Application: Mainly used for high-speed cutting of high hardness materials, such as heat-resistant steel, stainless steel and other difficult to machine materials.
aluminium alloy:
Features: It has the characteristics of light weight, high rigidity, corrosion resistance, and relatively low manufacturing cost.
Application: Commonly used in power transmission systems or braking systems that require weight and corrosion resistance. However, it should be noted that its toughness and strength are relatively poor, and it may not be suitable for machine added rods that can withstand large loads.
Titanium alloy:
Characteristics: It has the advantages of high strength, light weight, corrosion resistance, etc., and can maintain stable performance in high temperature and cold environments.
Application: Suitable for high-speed transmission systems or high load braking systems that require extremely high strength and stability. However, the production cost of titanium alloy is relatively high, so the price is relatively expensive.
Carbon fiber:
Characteristics: Extremely high strength, lightweight, with good tensile performance and stiffness.
Application: Generally used in the manufacturing of high-performance sports equipment, such as motorcycles and racing cars. In the field of machined rods, carbon fiber materials can be used to manufacture components that require weight reduction and improved transmission efficiency. But the production cost of carbon fiber materials is also relatively high.
When selecting the material for the machining rod, it is necessary to comprehensively consider factors such as specific processing requirements, working environment, and cost budget. Different materials have different characteristics and application ranges. Choosing the appropriate material can improve the performance and service life of the machining rod, while reducing production costs.
